Grassroots Clubs Go Gold and Silver 2011-12
GRASSROOTS CLUBS GOLD AND SILVER AWARDS Twenty five football clubs across Wales have been awarded the two highest accolades in grassroots football, having received Gold and Silver Accreditation by the Welsh Football Trust’s Club Accreditation Scheme. The Club Accreditation scheme forms part of the Welsh Football Trust’s programme to improve opportunities for youngsters to get involved in football. Sponsored by McDonald’s, Community Partner of the Football Association of Wales and The Welsh Football Trust, the scheme was established to ensure standards of excellence within the grassroots football community. Having been awarded gold status, Wrexham’s Brickfield Rangers YFC and Carmarthen’s Johnstown JFC join the ranks of just two other Welsh clubs to have been recognised for offering the very best standards in grassroots football. To qualify, the clubs offer their members the coaching skills of a UEFA ‘B’ Licence qualified coach, a minimum of two coaches per team and an FAW ‘C’ Certificate coach for every three teams. As part of the gold award, clubs must also offer specific goalkeeping and disability coaching. McDonald’s Director of Welsh Football Ian Rush said, “To be awarded Gold Accreditation is a superb achievement by Brickfield Rangers YFC and Johnstown JFC – one that takes a huge amount of effort to achieve. All involved should be incredibly proud of the opportunities they have established to ensure that young boys and girls continue to learn, play and enjoy football.” A further twenty-two clubs across the country have all been awarded silver status. Jamie Clewer, National Programmes Manager from the Welsh Football Trust added, “Grassroots football is the bedrock of the local community and we hope that with such a thriving number of grassroots clubs across the country, ever more numbers of young players are inspired to play football.” The full list of clubs to achieve Gold and Silver Accreditation include: Gold - Brickfield Rangers YFC, Wrexham - Johnstown Town JFC, Carmarthenshire - Kinmel Bay FC, Conwy Silver - Aberkenfig BG FC, Bridgend - Ammanford JFC, Carmarthenshire - Bancffosfelen JFC, Carmarthenshire - Bryntirion JFC, Bridgend - Buckley Town, Flintshire - Cardiff City Ladies FC - Chepstow Garden City JFC, Monmouthshire - Dafen JFC, Carmarthenshire - Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan - Flint Town United, Flintshire - Garden Village, Swansea - Kidwelly Black Cats JFC, Carmarthenshire - Lisvane Panthers, Cardiff - Llay United FC, Wrexham - Marford and Gresford FC, Wrexham - Mumbles Rangers , Swansea - Swansea Bravehearts, Swansea - Swansea VIPS, Swansea - Talycopa JFC, Swansea - Tenby, Pembrokeshire - Thornhill Athletic, Cardiff - Villa Dino Christchurch JFC, Newport

Outdoor sports facility unveiled! A brand new first-class outdoor games facility was officially unveiled in Pontllanfraith recently. The 3G facility located at Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre will aim to further increase participation in outdoor games across Caerphilly county borough at a grassroots level. The official unveiling took place on Friday, and following the unveiling, Caerphilly County Borough Council was delighted to host the Welsh Schools FA U’18 International Friendly Wales vs. Australia football match, which ended in a 3-1 win to Australia. Cllr Phil Bevan, Cabinet Member for Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning said, “This brand new facility will be a wonderful asset to our county borough. We are working closely with local clubs, leagues and the Welsh Football Trust and other key partners to ensure this facility and others like it are used to their maximum potential for the benefit of county borough residents, and also help further increase participation in outdoor games at a grassroots level”. Jamie Clewer, Development Programmes Manager for the Welsh Football Trust said, “3G pitch projects like Pontllanfraith are integral to the Welsh Football Trusts’ development strategy and we applaud Caerphilly for their investment across the borough in excellent facilities for football”. He continued, “We want to improve access to high quality playing facilities for all players but particularly young players. We see 3G pitches being at the centre of our efforts to not only grow the game but retain players by providing a high quality surface and venue that can be utilised regardless of inclement weather”. The 3G facility has come to fruition thanks to Sport Wales and FAW Trust grants with contributions also from Caerphilly County Borough Council. Local sporting clubs are invited to contact Pontllanfraith Leisure Centre to enquire about availability of the facility for training purposes. Wrexham help Prestatyn see the light Thursday 09 February 2012 WREXHAM will be sending a side to face Prestatyn Town in a fundraising friendly game in a couple of weeks, after the Seasiders found themselves facing an unexpected £5,000 floodlight repair bill. The game will be at Bastion Gardens on Wednesday 22 February 22 (7.30pm) and also helps the Dragons fill a gap in their fixture list following the postponement of a Central League game against Tranmere Rovers that night, as well as this week's call off against Macclesfield Town. Prestatyn vice-chairman Mark Jones has been busy contacting several local Football League clubs to see if they can help and a couple more fundraisers are expected to be announced in the next week. Their floodlights have to be checked and maintained every three years as part of the FAW Domestic Licence criteria and Town's were found to need considerable attention to both the lamps and infrastructure - work which will land the club an unexpected bill in the region of £5,000. "The lights are mandatory criteria essential to the fulfilment of the Domestic Licence," says Jones. "If the work had not been carried out by March 31 then our place in the Welsh Premier League would have been under serious threat. "We did not want to be put in the same position as Gap Connah's Quay, who lost their place due to a floodlight issue a couple of years ago, so we had no option but to get the work done. "We are grateful to Wrexham for bringing a team to help raise money towards a bill which we did not really expect at this stage of the season. "Hopefully other clubs will commit to helping us out in the next few days and we will be starting a 'Floodlight Fighting Fund' to find the money needed to pay the costs."
