LUKE Holden has been released for a second time by The New Saints just a month after his return to Park Hall from Chester FC. The 23-year-old's was unable to make his debut on January 2 due to the FAW's transfer regulations and has made just one Welsh Premier appearance in his second spell at TNS, in Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Neath. A left-sided forward who was a Liverpool youth and Tranmere Rovers trainee, Holden first impressed the Saints in pre-season games before signing in August 2007. Released the following April after making 22 first team starts, he followed manager Ken McKenna to Cammell Laird and also played at Bradford Park Avenue before returning to the Welsh Premier with Rhyl in January 2009. Holden then attracted the interest of Coventry City in the close season but, after failing to agree personal terms, joined Charlton Athletic on loan on transfer deadline day. He then signed for Wrexham on an emergency loan deal on 1 February 2010 after the Addicks decided not to offer a permanent contract and has since plied his trade in the English pyramid with Droylsden and Chester before arriving at Park Hall on a non-contract deal.

Newtown go plastic NEWTOWN have confirmed their plans to become the second Welsh Premier club to install an artificial 3G pitch as early as this summer. As we revealed last year, the Robins are keen to replace their grass surface at Latham Park with the latest 3G surface and chairman Elwyn Preece revealed there had been a positive response to the proposal at a recent club fans’ forum. "We are in the process of applying for funding and I would like to think we can have a 3G pitch laid in the close season," he told the County Times. Regarding the fans reaction Preece said: "It was excellent, absolutely excellent. They can see where we are going. "If you take the last week or so, we have had three games called off and if we had a 3G pitch there is a good possibility they would have gone ahead." Preece said that he believes the pitch is essential for the future of the club. "We have been here for a hundred years and I want to see the club here for the next 100 years, so my grandchildren have somewhere to play or watch football," he added. "We are having terrible trouble trying to find places to train for the full team, the ladies team and the youths, we just don’t have the facilities. "We have got players who are from Shrewsbury, Chester, Brecon and these lads are travelling on Tuesday nights to find out the pitch is frozen or too wet and we cannot train on it. "We want to be more professional than we are. We are in one sense but we don’t have the facilities to fulfill the other part of professionalism, which is making sure there’s somewhere to train when the lads come in." The New Saints were the first club in the domestic league to install a 3G surface back in 2007 and Preece, who was involved with TNS as a vice president until recently, says there were no negative comments from fans who attended the forum. "There were none whatsoever, we put the case to them that we are in the 21st century and we have to move with the times. "I have had conversations with managers from other clubs and they have got the same problems with where to train and they would welcome a 3G pitch. It’s not just for Newtown it’s for the community and surrounding areas as well."
